How to Join a Yahoo! Group

3 January 2009 No Comment

No matter what your interests are, there are groups of people that are interested in the same things. Yahoo Groups is one community where you’ll be able to find others to share your interests with and find answers to specific questions on niche topics.

Steps

  1. Create a Yahoo account, if you don’t already have one. If you already have one, make sure you are logged in. Then go to Yahoo Groups.
  2. Browse by category, or use the search box to find a group that discusses topics that you are interested in.
  3. Click on the name of the group that you are interested in and you will be taken to the group’s main page.
  4. If you decide that you “still” want to join, after reading the full description, click on the “Join This Group!” button, located in the top, right corner.
  5. Verify that you are joining with your correct profile.
  6. Select the email address that you would like to use.
  7. Set how often you would like to receive messages, and the message format that you want them delivered in.
  8. Type in the text for the word verification.
  9. Press “Join”.

Tips

  • If a group has a lot of activity, make sure to set your delivery preferences, accordingly. You “can” change your preferences, later.
  • When browsing for groups, you might have to go through many levels before finding a specific topic.
  • The word verification is “case sensitive”, meaning that capital letters must be typed that way.

Warnings

  • At the top of every group’s page, you can see the amount of messages the group gets. Some of them get thousands per day. Setting how often you would like to receive messages to “Individual emails” will fill up your inbox, quickly.
